Keeping our Cool

It's been sweltering on site during the last two weeks, especially for the roofers and for those working in the rooms which now have fixed and fully glazed windows.

The lower ground floor is very popular because it's pleasantly cool.  This is not because the big Air Handling Units which will supply ventilation to the main part of the building, and most of the Fan Coil Units which will cool and heat the meeting rooms, conference rooms and restaurant etc, as well as those in the hotel guest rooms in the south wing are now installed - they won't be commissioned for some time yet - but because a large part of the 'back of house accommodation comprising Plant Rooms, Kitchens, Stores and WC's etc are below ground - remember that big hole in the ground we were building up from when it snowed a few months back?

There is so much going on in the building it's hard to keep up with progress, and yet it is steady and controlled.  The window installation is finished on the south wing, so we are now starting the boarding on which the external finishes will be applied, and while we're working hard to make sure that the finishes are well designed, we are also looking forward to seeing what the building will look like from the outside.

Inside, there is more of everything going on: plastering of walls and ceilings, laying of floor screeds and installing mechanical and electrical services, mainly, for the 'wet' trades, in the lower ground floor, but for the others on all three floors, and outside the roof edge features are being constructed ready for the roof to have its final surface applied soon.
